Hi, my name is Jennifer, a native from Owyhee County, Idaho, with Owyhee roots. Hence, Owyhee Desert Jewelry is the moniker of my humble business. I am a silversmith and a lapidary artist. I currently reside in Utah with the view of Mount Olympus from our front yard with my child, spouse, and two Goldendoodles, with a dream to return to my Owyhee roots when the timing is right.
I found my true calling in 2020. I am a nature lover, stewardess of Mother Earth and more of a wanderer. I wanted to dabble with everything in life. Be this and be that. Nothing felt right until the day I went rockhounding with my family out in the Owyhees. Oh, how I love being out in nature and the energy that draws me in. My husband said to me, “This is the happiest I have ever seen you!” It hit me, a light bulb went off and my mind linked to my father, Tom Caldwell who passed away in 1985. He was a naturalist, rockhound, prospector, claim owner in the Owyhees, lapidary artist and bit of a silversmith. I’ve always been mesmerized by precious metals, stones, gemstones, and all of the beautiful things gifted by Mother Earth since I was little. I was like bingo! Why did I not do this a long time ago? To walk in Tom’s footsteps and carry on his legacy. So, I started taking one-on-one silversmithing and lapidary classes in Utah and Idaho. I was smitten with metalsmithing! I was supported by my parents, Brent and Lisa, once I started my journey. I learned a lot about rocks from my mother, dad, and rock friends.
I make jewelry for people who value precious metals and stones. Both have grounding properties that connect you to the Earth. Some heal you, offer protection, repel negativity, help you overcome obstacles, and many more. I invest my time on an arduous task with each piece to make others happy. Each piece I make now and in the future is infused with a plethora of positive energy, light, and love. I consider each piece to be an heirloom. They are meant to last forever and treated with tremendous care so people can pass them on to their loved ones.
Thousands of thank you to Adam, Rowanskyee, my parents, siblings, teachers, ASL interpreters, silver sisters, moon, Mother Earth, Father Sky, some of my dear friends for all of your support as I embark on this journey. ~With love from the high desert
